WALK For Those Who Can't

Why We Walk
Carolina Canines for Service is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities. We enable them to achieve greater independence and enhanced quality of life through the gift of specially trained service dogs. A service dog is individually trained to perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a physical disability other than blindness. It takes almost three years to train a service dog, and once fully trained, each dog, now valued at over $38,000, is placed with a recipient at NO COST!

Carolina Canines for Service was founded on December 1, 1996 in Wilmington, NC. During the past eleven years, we have placed 27 service dogs. That means over $1,000,000 worth of service dogs have been placed in the past eleven years with no government funding. We rely on volunteer service, individual donor contributions and grants from various charitable foundations.

Our success in helping our clients with disabilities has literally meant “growing pains” for Carolina Canines. We have now outgrown our space on 23rd Street and are looking for a new home. This event is intended to publicize our service to the community, finance our operations, and help raise funds for a new facility. We can not do this without the help and support of our community.
